Let’s start with Pahang, which is the third largest state in Malaysia and located right next to the big city of Kuala Lumpur that can be reached approximately one hour away, depending on your destination. Famously known for its hill resorts of Genting Highlands and Cameron Highlands, as well as Fraser’s Hill and Bukit Tinggi. Travellers enjoy visiting those places to escape the bustling life and to enjoy some cooling fresh air by the resorts. While you are in Pahang, Deerland Park and Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary National Elephant Conservation Centre in Temerloh are places not-to-be-missed if you want to interact with a few majestic animals. Pahang is never short of activities from petting at the Rabbit Park in Bentong to trekking the tropical rainforest of Taman Negara Malaysia.

Just north of Pahang is Terengganu which is the haven for beach lovers to get in on some sunbathing action or for those who wants to go for diving adventures. Some of the most popular spots are located at Perhentian Island, Lang Tengah Island, Kapas Island and Redang Island. You don’t have to go to the beach in order to escape the bustling city life. Besides the beaches, you can also check out the floating Tengku Tengah Zaharah Mosque in Kuala Terengganu, cool down by the Chemerong Waterfalls at Dungun or say hello to some animals at Mini Zoo Kemaman in Chukai. Alternatively, you can just go for a delicious food trip to check out pulut lepa, bubu lambut, solok lada, lompat tikam, nasi dagang, otak-otak, keropok lekor and more!

Travel a little further up to Kelantan to get in touch with mother nature at places like Gua Ikan, Gunung Stong State Park and Jelawang Waterfall in Dabong or Gunung Reng in Jeli to experience the mountains and waterfalls with the entire family. Get your crafty finger to work at the Handicraft Village and Craft Museum in the capital city of Kota Bharu if you are feeling artsy or visit Buddhist temple Gua Musang in Pulai that is believe to be 400 years old. There are numerous museums and spiritual places that you can also visit while you’re in Kelantan.

Never forget all the wonderful things that you can do in East Malaysia. Besides being known for the majestic Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, you can get up close and person to the orang utans at the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre or learn about the Borneo ethnic culture over at Mari Mari Cultural Village. Missing your diving adventures? Get on out there to the extraordinary sites of Mabul Island and Manukan Island for an unforgettable experience.

Over at the exciting Sarawak, besides being able to trek the magnificent Mount Santubong, you can get your hiking boots on to witness the equally amazing Mulu National Park or Niah National Park, just to name a few from the many places you can choose from. You can also get up close with the orang utan and exotic bird species at Semenggoh Nature Reserve in Siburan, Sarawak. If you are looking for something simple, you can just go for a food trip to try their delicious mee kolok to bubur pedas. If you are a fan of cats, you can also visit the Kuching Cat Museum, appropriately located in Kuching town itself.
