Penang Public Holidays

As with other major states in Malaysia, Penang furnishes similar public holidays for its residents. It is often filled with a large crowd especially during the festive season of Chinese New Year and most notable Malaysian celebrations are commemorated in Penang. On July 7, 2008, the state’s capital of Georgetown was declared as one of the many World Heritage Sites which have led the administration to gazette a holiday upon the designation. Penang since then celebrates Georgetown World Heritage City Day on 7th of July every year making it a public holiday for all Penangites.
