The Libingan ng mga Bayani was established by the Philippine government in 1947.
It’s a site to pay respect and tribute to the fallen Filipino soldiers of World War II.
Translating to the ‘Hero’s Cemetery’ in English.
It also serves as the final resting place for soldiers who die in the line of duty, veterans with honorable discharges, celebrated politicians and national artists.
What can you find there?
Two large black stone walls sit at the entrance of the cemetery.
Read the inscribed passage at the gates which was quoted from General Douglas McArthur when he visited the cemetery in 1960.
Visit the tomb of the Unknown Hero at the heart of the grounds.
See the four pillars in the cemetery which pay tribute to each war the Philippine military fought in.
Visit the graves of 44,027 fallen soldiers, presidents and national artists.
Notable graves to visit are those of Diosdado Macapagal, Carlos P. Garcia and Arturo Tolentino.
