Myanma Railways

Myanmar (once Burma) located in the western portion of mainland Southeast Asia – a nation with more than 100 ethnic groups, bordering India, China, Laos, Thailand, and Bangladesh. It’s capital city Yangon (formerly Rangoon), is home to markets, parks and lakes and the Shwedagon Pagoda that contains Buddhist relics dating back to the 6th century.

Stratified Train Types of Myanma Railways

There are two classifications of trains in Myanmar: first is (1) Up (that heads north), and (2) Down (that heads south). Each route has a number: a two to a three-digit number that is designated to each train route.

Below are the classes of trains to give you further information:

Note: Yangon to Mandalay route is superior to others, wound the country.

Myanma Railways’ Ticket Price

Tickets can be booked online at least five days ahead of your departure time. However, reserving seats for train travel in person is different. Tickets for the ordinary and first-class seats should be reserved one day ahead of your departure time. Meanwhile, upper class and sleeper cabins can be booked up to two weeks before the departure time.

Tickets are priced in Kyat, which costs ranges from K1,000 and K-10,000, which is equivalent to USD 10 to USD 25.
