San Agustin Museum
- The San Agustin Museum is located within the church’s monastery.
- It houses art and artifacts from Spain, Mexico, and the Philippines.
- Situated very near UNESCO World Heritage Site of the San Agustin Church.
- The museum remains in great condition, despite suffering damages by British, American and Japanese forces in the 18th, 19th and 20th century respectively.
What can you find there?
- View a treasure trove of antiquities from the past five centuries and glimpse at the riches of Old Manila.
- A gigantic 3,400 kilogram bell sits in the middle of the museum’s old porters lodge.
- Take a look at church artifacts and statues in the Sala de la Capitulacion.
- An altar with 22 gold niches from 1650 can be seen in the Sacristy.
- Visit the Sala Profundis mausoleum and admire the Aztec frescoes found in the ceiling.
- Climb the impressive old stone staircase of the monastery which was built in 1780 and made from Chinese granite from Canton.
- Learn about the history of the Augustinians, paintings and a porcelain collection on the second floor.
