About Chiangmai Railway Station

Chiang Mai is the largest city in Northern Thailand that serves a rail station called Chiang Mai Railway Station. This train station covers train routes on the Northern Line running between Bangkok and Chiang Mai station which is the terminus. As one of the railway stations in Thailand, Chiang Mai Railway Station is the 1st class station that operates ten trains daily excluding Eastern and Oriental Express (luxury train that travels between Singapore, Malaysia and Singapore).  

Situated on the east side of Ping River, Chiangmai train station was first established in 1922 serving gauge rolling stock service. The first train operated between Lampang and Chiangmai, then Northern Express was introduced within the same year. The first Chiangmai railway station building was destroyed due to the bombs made by Allied Forces in 1943. It was rebuilt two years later and reopened in 1948 with Northern Express Service continued back its operation in 1946. 

How to Get to Chiangmai Railway Station 

The easiest way to get to Chiangmai Railway Station is by taking a train from any railway stations along the route between Bangkok and Chiangmai. Travel duration differs by the departing station. If travelling from Bangkok, the train takes an approximated time of an 11-hour journey.
