Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration
September 20th, 2018
Falling on the 15th day of the eight month according to the Chinese lunar calendar, the Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most extravagant festival among many Chinese after the Chinese New Year. The name of the festival is derived from the fact that it is always celebrated in the middle of the autumn season in which the day of the festival is also known as the Moon Festival. The moon is believed to be at its roundest shape and brightest during the distinguished period.
Throughout the festival, family members gather to offer sacrifices to the moon as a symbol of appreciation towards the blessed occurrence of the bright full moon. Practices during the Mid-Autumn Festival include eating mooncakes as well as express strong yearnings toward family members and friends who live afar. The mooncake is a special delicacy throughout the festival as it symbolizes family reunion in Chinese traditions. This year, the festival is scheduled to fall on September 24th, 2018.
